Regular health check-ups are a great way to take stock and identify factors which may be putting you at a higher risk for poor health. There is no standard time interval for health check-ups as factors such as family history, pre-existing illness and medications are different for all patients. We encourage all patients to see their doctor regularly for basic health checks such as blood pressure, body mass index and waist size.

It is important to protect yourself and your family from serious and preventable diseases and infections. Our GPs can provide the protection you need with vaccinations for children, travel, your work and more.
Childhood vaccinations are recommended at 2, 4, 6, 12 and 18 months and 4 years of age. Check with your doctor for more information.
The best way to protect yourself from skin cancer is to use sun protection and have regular skin examinations by a doctor.
When doing a skin check, the doctor will take an in-depth history of the health of your skin and assess your risk factors for skin cancer. They will then look over your skin carefully using very high magnification that allows the doctor look into the structure of the skin. The doctor will discuss the any findings with you and will make recommendations based on your individual skin cancer risk factors.

Sclerotherapy is an effective, non-invasive treatment which involves injecting veins directly or under ultrasound guidance with a sclerosant, which removes the veins permanently.
Dr Hugh Wall has a post graduate qualification in sclerotherapy and is experienced in treating cosmetic and more serious problem leg veins from spider veins to large varicose veins. Dr Wall does ultrasound guided sclerotherapy as well as direct vision sclerotherapy here in the surgery.
Treatment involves an initial consultation where the best course of treatment is determined.
Most patients will require two sessions of direct vision sclerotherapy at $250 per session. Additional costs are: sclerosant at $25 per session and graduated compression stockings at around $150 a pair (fully refundable from most private health funds).
Patients with more extensive varicose veins may require ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy. This is charged at $600 per leg with a medicare rebate of $97. Often two sessions are required.
The doctor will meet with you to discuss whether you would benefit from an iron infusion, and then an appointment will be scheduled in the following days to have the infusion. The infusion takes about 20 minutes, but patients are to stay for observation for a further 30 minutes afterwards.
We offer iron infusions using Ferinject which is not a blood product (and is therefore suitable for Jehovah’s Witnesses),and does not have the risks of blood transfusion. It is also considered safe to use after the first trimester of pregnancy (when benefits outweigh risks) and during breastfeeding.
